Bowers & Wilkins Formation Wedge

Stylish Roon Ready Speaker

It is one of B&W’s active speakers, part of the Formation series that supports Roon. The Formation series, which has a niche feel to it, has already been on the market for several years without any successor, so it feels like ‘this is the end.’ Currently, in Japan, there are only a few speakers that support Roon, such as KEF and B&W, and this model is the only one that combines it into a compact, all-in-one unit. So, I decided to give it a try.

Sound Quality Impressions

There is no discomfort regarding stereo imaging. As expected from B&W, the resolution is impeccable, and the sound is flat without any emphasized frequencies from top to bottom. In that sense, one could argue that it lacks excitement. However, it’s hard to imagine a situation where you would directly face this speaker and seriously listen to music, so I think this is the right approach.

Usage Scenarios

It seems suitable for ‘casually playing music in the background.’ As mentioned earlier, the sound is perfect for background listening, and the design seems to prioritize integration with the interior as an all-in-one unit. I personally have it placed in my bedroom for lazy moments when I lie in bed and relax.

Considering the housing situation in Japan, I think it would be even better if it were a bit smaller, and ideally, it would be even more convenient if it could integrate with voice assistants like Google Home or Alexa…
