Desktop Companion for Music Enthusiasts
There is a similar product called the Astell&Kern CA1000/CA1000T, but surprisingly, it’s quite different.
R7 | CA1000T | |
Dimensions | 110×160×134mm | 104.9×45×155.8mm |
Power | AC or DC | USB-C, Battery(Li-ion) |
Other features | Wired LAN, Android-based OS (can app installation), 4pinXLR | Tilt LCD、A&K original OS |
The R7 is compact enough considering its many features, but it’s a rectangular shape, and if you want to fully utilize its input/output ports, it takes up a considerable amount of space on the desktop. Especially when connecting to the rear ports, you need to be careful about cable clearance.
The Line Out (unbalanced) and DC In are positioned at about half the height of the main body.
Usability
Like other recent Fiio models, it runs on an Android 10-based OS powered by Snapdragon 660, and it operates smoothly and responsively.
The main unit can be placed horizontally or slightly tilted using the base, allowing you to adjust it according to your equipment setup or personal preference. Double-sided tape is included to secure the base to the main unit.
Sound Quality
As often mentioned with Fiio products, I found the sound to be beautiful. On the positive side, it has a clean and transparent sound without any noticeable noise. On the other hand, it may also feel lacking in excitement.
Points to Note
Similar to the Astell&Kern CA1000/CA1000T, it cannot be used to transmit external inputs via Bluetooth (as a transmitter).
If the idea of using it on a desktop, including the connections, aligns with your usage scenario, then it should work well for you. Personally, I found it a bit large, and the sound output didn’t have any remarkable qualities, so I decided to let it go.”
