Portable but not meant to be taken out
This is also for Roon. I use it exclusively for home use. It comes with a case, but I was concerned about winding up the earphones, so I purchased the shoulder pouch. It fits perfectly, and the earphones can be stored in the outer pocket.
Comparison with M11S in terms of sound quality
I will compare the two Roon Ready devices. I upsample FLAC audio to 384kHz on the Roon Core, and I use Shure AONIC 5 earphones with the gain set to High on M15S.
The test song is Hiromi’s ‘Spark’.
First, let’s start with the M11S:
- The resolution seems more than sufficient. The sound is clean.
- Even when the band ensemble starts, each instrument is well discernible. The bass sounds powerful and impactful.
- The synchronization of soft tones at 2:49 is also OK.
Next, the M15S:
- Compared to the M11S, there is a sense of expanded space. Each instrument has good separation, especially the various parts of the drums. However, the bass sounds slightly restrained. Nevertheless, the expression of the toms is impressive.
- There is no clinging sensation, and it excels in musical expression.
The overall sound tendencies of both devices are similar (beautiful sounds), but when compared, the M15S is definitely better. The connections—2.5mm, 3.5mm, and 4.4mm—generally exhibit the same tendencies, but the difference is more pronounced with balanced connections.
